Museum & Online Programs

It's not enough simply to change our education system to be more engineering-ready. The Museum of Science also seeks to change the way we approach and understand engineering and the technologies that result from it in other parts of our lives.

That's because the basis of engineering is problem solving — something that everyone can benefit from. So we've developed several key programs to bring engineering and technology understanding to adults and children everywhere.

What are we doing outside of the classroom? Here's just a partial list:

Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network

The Museum of Science is taking a leadership role in the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network of science museums and research centers to enhance public engagement nationally in nanoscale science, engineering, and technology.

Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination

This traveling exhibit explores the real-world possibilities behind the science fiction technologies in the six George Lucas feature films.

Educator Resource Center

As part of the Museum's goal to improve STEM literacy in grades K-12, the Educator Resource Center in the Lyman Library and online is now dedicated to educators nationwide for use as a multimedia resource center and professional development space.

Cahners ComputerPlace

In this Museum of Science exhibit, visitors can take a peek inside a computer, chat with a virtual Museum guide, design and program animations and games, and much more.

Gordon Current Science & Technology Center

The Museum's Gordon Current Science & Technology Center offers the public breaking news stories on science and technology with interpretation by Museum staff, scientists and inventors. Topics include health sciences, genomics, immunology, the brain, behavior, biotechnology, Earth and space, matter and energy, nanotechnology, information technology, artificial intelligence, materials science, engineering, robotics, technology, and more.

Other offerings include:

• Forums focusing on critical science and technology issues and decision making
• Design Challenges designed to introduce students and visitors to the engineering design cycle. This hands-on activity is offered Monday - Friday, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
• Innovative Engineers exhibit, bringing some long-overdue attention to the engineering leaders who solve everyday challenges both large and small.
